WebHosting & Design

BlueHost– BlueHost is my hosting company, and I LOVE them. Getting everything going with them was pretty easy and super affordable! Monthly rates are low and they allow you to register your domain name for free! There is a little to figure out initially, so if you’re feeling confused, check out my Learn How to Start a Blog post. If you still have questions, I’d be happy to answer them if you send me a message!

Angie Makes WordPress Themes– I am SO glad I found Angie Makes. I currently run the Lucy & Lane theme on my site and I absolutely love it.  It is so functional and easy to use, looks beautiful on all types of devices, allows for a ton of customization, and is set up to work with pretty much any plugins. For those of us lacking the knowledge to do ALL our coding, Angie Makes themes are awesome.

Elegant Themes– These themes are more reasonably priced than a lot of others out there. I recommend an Elegant Themes membership to new bloggers still trying to figure out how to use WordPress and wanting to keep their design options open. When you purchase a membership with ET, you get access to 87 different themes to play with!

Blogging Tools & Resources

Learn how to monetize your food blog by checking out this eBook!

Click here to visit Pinch of Yum – How to Monetize your Food Blog eBook. Not going to lie, Pinch of Yum was an absolute savior when I first started my blog. I literally read every article Lindsay posted with blogging tips (and many of the yummy recipes too!).  In this eBook, she writes about how to make money off your blog. It’s been a go-to resource for me. Thanks, Pinch of Yum!

Use mailchimp for your blog email campaigns!

Sign Up for MailChimp – Mailchimp is an email marketing software that is great for bloggers. It enables you to send marketing emails, automated messages, and targeted campaigns. It also integrates beautifully with WordPress. The best part? There is a free version you can use if you want to check it out first. For all the bells and whistles, you’ll want to get a paid version, but to start off, the free version will help you learn the ropes!

Photography Tools

Canon t4i DSLR– More people will be drawn to your blog if your photos look professional. For this reason, it isn’t a bad idea to invest in a nice camera to take your own photos. This DSLR is the camera I use. You don’t need anything SUPER fancy, but this is a good starter option and really easy even for inexperienced photographers.

Driving Traffic to Your Blog- Photo Submissions

One of the best ways to get your name and content out there (and make a little extra cash on the side) is to submit your photos to stock photography collections. If you are already taking photos to include on your blog, you might as well take a few extra minutes to submit them for sale elsewhere! Below are just a few of the places I submit and get the most bang for my buck. Note that some of these companies will require a portfolio submission to essentially APPLY to be a content supplier/author. Don’t feel discouraged if you don’t get accepted on your first try. Keep coming back!

Envato Market- Photodune

Stock Photography

Looking for some great photos to use on your blog? Check out Photodune through Envato Market. Photodune via Envato Market- We’d all love to have the time to take our own professional looking photos to accompany our blog posts. We know that the picture is one of the most important things that will draw others to our site. But…sometimes we just don’t have the time.  At Photodune, you can find the perfect royalty free image, from weddings to fashion, business, food, family, fitness, people, tech, travel and more. I’m an author for photodune; if you like my photos and are interested in purchasing, check out my author page!

  1. I am a new blogger so I haven’t invested in any equipment yet. I want to make sure I am going to be somewhat successful first! Maybe one day I can afford a nice camera to up my game with pictures!

  2. Bluehost is who my designer is affiliated with so that’s why I use also, so far I am happy, but I’ve only had them about a month. 🙂 And I’d like a new camera, but it’s so far down on my list of things I need now that my re-branding is finished that I’m sure it will be awhile. Thanks for sharing these resources!

    1. I hear ya- I actually didn’t purchase the camera for my blogging. I happened to have this one because I’ve shot a few friends’ weddings. Photography is just a hobby for me 🙂
